Trust Me.......

I can NOT help but read all the stuff today about health, food, diet...There are times I just want to block it all out and forget what I know. How many times do you read something and then realize that there isn't anything you can do about it?? We live in the information age. We have so much at our fingertips, it can be overwhelming. As a mom I find I can worry about every food I put on the table for my family. With all the appliances we have , you would think that we'd have all this extra time but the fact is...we don't. I don't have time to make EVERY*THING*FROM*SCRATCH!! Even so, I do attempt to make as much as I can from scratch for a few reasons... health and finances. I want to eat all organic...all whole foods but here are a few things i've noticed.  *You can eat all organic and whole foods and STILL have health issues. *Be over weight * not be healthy There are many times that I will ask the Lord, "Why show me all this if there isn...

It's a Pinterest World

I love pinterest. I seriously go there instead of searching the internet. If I need a unit study on a topic, a recipe, curriculum review, craft ideas..... The list goes on and on. I do love all the great ideas I find. I actually do try some of them. SOME OF THEM. One thing that i've had people ask me , as a homeschooler is, "How do you entertain them all day?". I'm stupified at that question. It confuses me. Do people really think I "entertain" my children all day? No wonder people are intimidated by homeschooling moms!! They think we teach them, keep the home clean, cook, shop, AND entertain our children all day! That is IMPOSSIBLE. I know that some of the blogs out there would have you thinking that but i'm sure if you chatted with that blogger mom, you'd get a different picture. Pinterest is a great place to get great ideas for a rainy day. Yes, I've made flubber and homemade playdoh but that was on snowy days when we had the extra tim...

Let Them Get Bored!!!

Image
People ask me , "Why do you homeschool?". There is NOT one answer to that question. I would also say that my reasons change from day to day. There are SO many reasons that I love homeschooling, to answer that question in one sentence, really isn't possible. Lately i've noticed another wonderful reason. I simply LOVE being with my children. I have watched my friends, now and over the years and homeschooling is actually easier. That's right...I said it. "It's easier!" My friends are always exhausted, stressed and running around. They're always "busy" and seem to be spinning their wheels but not really getting anywhere. Ever feel that way?? When I ask them ,"Why are you so busy"....Here is a quick condensed version of their day..... (Paraphrasing of course) ***************************** I wake up, get the kids up, feed them breakfast, get them dressed, on the bus...then I clean up, get dressed.....do the laundry, cle...

The School room Remodel

I love when I get to organize. When you're painting the whole main level and the basement at the same time, Not so much. It's like moving!! I love being able to clean and throw away tons of stuff that we've accumulated in the past 12 years. It's just the amount of clutter right now could make me a little crazy if I had OCD...which I don't. Honestly, I don't. Ok, maybe a little. Here's a video of our "Before". I don't know why the video is sideways, and I can't seem to fix it. Laura, Loving, Learning and Leaning on Christ

**Updated**Norwex Vs. Ecloth ** Updated **

A friend of mine started selling Norwex. I had no idea what it was at the time. She sent me an invite to her party, via Facebook. I decided to look and I couldn't make it to the party but I wanted to buy something. I went to the Norwex site and was shocked at the prices. I though, "Oh no way!" Then I thought, "Holly isn't impulsive. She's not someone who would waste money, these must be good". I went and watched some of the video's she posted about the product and was intrigued. I decided to buy the "Enviro cloth" and "Window cloth". They were pricey but if they could do what the video showed me, you know...the one with the chicken?? After I ordered, I decided to do some research. Yea, I know, I spent the money and THEN decided to research? A little backwards but either way, I wanted to support my friend. Chicken test and cross contamination test with Norwex In my research, I came across, Ecloths. These were suppose to do t...

Who Are We Hurting??

This will NOT be a popular post but since I only have a few followers, I shouldn't offend too many. First I want to start out by saying that I do NOT think that everyone should homeschool. I do NOT think that all Christians should homeschool. I think everyone is capable but not everyone is called to homeschool. I get that , I understand that. Second, I do NOT think that homeschooling in anyway ensures that you will have sinless children that grow up into sinless adults. We all sin, that is why we need a savior. If you all have met my children, you can see 1st hand that they're not sinless, nor perfect. Homeschooling does not necessarily make adolescent years easier or better. It doesn't guarantee a successful career. That said....... Over the years, I've had Christian women look me in the face, over and over and say, " I don't homeschool because I want my children to be a light to the world.". For many years I sat back and watched the fruit of th...

Outside the "box".

Many have asked me why I don't use a "boxed" curriculum set. I agree that it would be easier...not necessarily less expensive but definitely easier. Last year I used Bob Jones for kindergarten. While this is a fast moving , advanced curriculum, I didn't find it to be as thorough as I would of liked. I would prefer to spend more time on a concept and have the child master it, rather than throw a bunch of topics at my child and see what sticks. This year I decided to use Math-u-See, (MUS), Logic of English, (LOE), Biblio Plan for History , (BP), and Apologia for Science. Why separate curriculum's for each subject?? If you'll notice, each curriculum is a specialty for these companies. For instance, I started 1st grade with Sarah this month, June. We school year round and had taken a few weeks off for me to prep for `1st grade. What i'm noticing is that with MUS we spend more time on each concept. A full week. If my child mastered the concept, then we...
