That's right!! Today marks 30 years of wedded bliss. Ok, maybe not bliss, but certainly a blessing!!
Rob and I got married 30 years ago today!! It was a freezing cold day in November and neither of us knew what we were getting into. Four children and 30 years later, we still have no idea what we're doing but have learned a few things along the way.
I see meme's on Facebook and Instagram and I'm usually amazed by the fantasy expectations that women have about marriage.
Love isn't fancy flowers or things.
Love isn't him thinking about you and you being his only thought. If you think you're going to get married and your spouse is going to think about you all day, you're in for a HUGE letdown.
That is a fantasy. Something you saw on TV?? Not the real world. We are setting up our children to fail in marriage if we don't teach them what true love looks like.
What did Jesus do??
He died for us!
He put us first. He thought about our needs. He didn't set boundaries. He didn't take some "Me" time. He knew what we needed and he did it! He knew that we were weak and He made a way for us to be with Him forever!! Praise God!!
Now, don't get me wrong, there are days that I want to kill my husband. There are days that I still look at him and think to myself, "I think I made a mistake".
We aren't perfect, but we are perfect for each other.
Here is love:
Love is getting up and going to work every day without complaining.
Love is working two jobs so that I can stay home and homeschool the kids.
Love is making sure that his laundry is done and shirts don't get wrinkled. (He hates that)
Love is washing the dishes when he knows I'm exhausted.
Love is making sure the kids leave dad alone while he's getting something annoying done.
Love is laughing at your stupidity together.
Love is making sure the kids listen when the other spouse is too tired to discipline.
Love is knowing how imperfect your spouse is but CHOOSING to still love.
Love is knowing how imperfect you are, amazed that your spouse still loves you.
Love is letting him watch the football game in peace.
The list goes on.
Doesn't look like on tv?? What you see on TV is fake. Real love isn't about what you can get but it's about choosing to serve someone else.
Love is a choice.
Jesus had a choice. He chose us!!
I choose love! Even when I don't *Feel* love. I choose to Love!!
I wish I had some prettier picture of what 30 years of marriage looks like. Actually , I don't! I'm showing you the truth. Love isn't always easy, romantic or pretty.
John 3:16 is a verse that many of us have memorized. Do you really think about it??
"For God so LOVED the world, that He gave His only begotten son. That whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life."
The Lord gave His son to die for us. That is love. Agape love.
My life verse is 1Thess 2:8 (NASB)
"Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us."
At first glance, this verse seems to be talking about how the disciples wanted to share their lives. It wasn't just that they would share their lives but that they would die for their brothers and sisters in Christ.
That is love!!
To celebrate our 30 years we're going out to dinner,
πwith the kids. π
Fortunately for you, I have the December weekly poster ready.
This is an 11 x 14 poster. I have these printed out at Walmart and put in my frame.
I write out our weekly activities on Sunday. I prefer the Monday start, but I have both options, Sunday or Monday, available for you to download. I also put at the bottom a space for your dinners. I also like a to-do Section but haven't added that in. I will be adding that into my 2020 Weekly Posters.
Here is a picture of my November Poster. You can see that we use it. My husband likes that he can see what is going on for the day.
