A Week in Disposables

Last week my washing machine broke. Ugh!! a week without a washing machine is annoying. Especially annoying when you use cloth diapers, cloth wipes and unpaper towels. I never realized how much cloth I actually use.

I had to put David into disposable diapers because I couldn't have his cloth diapers sitting in urine for a week. I took the dirty ones to my local laundramat and when I brought them home, I put them back in the diaper pail so that I could give them a good washing once my machine was fixed.

I had some disposables from Hurricane Irene. We knew that we'd be losing electricity. I didn't have to use them that long, so we still had a large box in our garage.

At first, I kinda liked the disposables. I liked how trim they were. David's clothing fit much better with them. Then he went poo in them and I REALLY liked throwing the poo in the garbage. It was at this point I thought to myself, "Maybe this won't be so bad?".

Later on David crawled over to me and wanted to cuddle. This PUTRED odor was coming from his diaper. It was urine!! URINE!! I changed him thinking that the diaper must be full. Nope..it wasn't full. It had a small spot where the gel substance was wet....(What is that gel that expands anyway??) I couldn't believe the odor. It was so strong. I thought there was something wrong with my son. I changed him and the odor was gone. Then the odor was back a little later. I finally realized that I wasn't use to disposables and that smell was normal. NORMAL?? Ugh. Everytime I went to cuddle with David I had to change him first.

My washer was fixed and my first load of laundry was David's Cloth diapers. I was happy to get him back into them.

Here is what I realized....

The ONLY thing I liked about disposable diapers was how much better his clothing fit.

Was that one reason going to change me??

Nope.

*I love cloth diapers.
* I love not spending a small fortune weekly on disposables.
* I love not having to worry about running out of diapers and having to make a mad-dash to my local store.
* I love how cute they are.
* I love making them

All in all, the week wasn't too bad. I do feel like I spent alot of money on these disposable diapers. I changed him often. I'm glad he's back in cloth.

Oh and for the record...I smelled his urine in cloth and it doesn't smell as putrid and strong as it did in the disposable diaper.

God Bless,
Laura
