What is this world coming to???

Sometimes I'm really shocked at what I see...sometimes. Usually nothing much phases me. I really am surprised by what shocks me.

The other day I was shopping in Walmart. There I see a young mom with her two boys..they looked to be around 9 and 10 years old. As I pass them by, I hear the son ask his mom, "What's that for?". The mom replies, "OH these are dish tablets to use in the dishwasher for cleaning the dishes.".

I was dumb-struck!! How could a child of 9 or 10 NOT know what that was? Weren't you loading the dishwasher at that age? To be honest...We didn't have a dishwasher growing up. I or my sister, Lisa, was the dish washer.

What is going on today? Are our children too lazy to do dishes? To put them in the dishwasher, put the soap in and start it? Do we require so little of them? Even my son, Bobby, who doesn't do too much domestic work, knows about dishwashers and starting them.

I think it's sad how little we teach or expect of our children. These poor children probably feel like they aren't really needed. After all...if nothing is asked of our children...then they'll think they're not worth it.

How sad.

God Bless,
Laura

  1. Oh Laura!!

Don't get me started! lol..... When I was "little", right after dinner, my sister and I got right up and started cleaning, no need to be asked at all....

Now, my children, think that I am slaving them, to ASK them to clean the kitchen and the dishes. And yes I have a dishwasher.... They should be real happy about that!

I could go on and on.... lol

  2. While I totally agree with you...we don't have a dishwasher at our house, so our kids don't know what those are either! Poor kids have to wash them by hand!!
