I've tried to learn throughout the years but failed every time. I'd get frustrated and give up. Even though I gave up, I'd still want to learn and would try and try and try and try again.
I've finally learned how to sew...Ok, so I'm not an expert but i've made some items that are definately being used. For those of you who follow this blog or my Facebook, then you can see that I'm making cloth diapers. I have also made Sarah her first dress. I'll post pics once I finish up the sleeves. It started out as a long sleeve, but now it's going to be a short-sleeved dress. It's all part of learning.
Here are a few things the Lord has shown me:
Patience...sewing requires patience. Patience to learn and then patience to cut out all the pieces and assemble them. Then after all the work is done...You finally get to sew it all together and see the masterpiece that you've created.
But let patience have [its] perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:4
Keep Your Eye on the Mark: When I'm sewing I have to watch where I'm going...If I'm top-stitching something and I take my eyes off of what I'm doing and look some where else, then my stitching goes off the mark and in the wrong direction. Much like my walk with the Lord. I have to keep my eyes on HIM. Keep my focus on my purpose in life, which is to live, honor, glorify for HIM.
Sometimes my stitching only goes off ALOT!! This is usually where I've got to sit for a long time to either rip out stitches or throw the whole thing out and start over. This one is very frustrating but is usually the easiest to see what I've done wrong and NOT do it again. It's like that in life...our big mistakes or Sins are easy to see. These are the ones that we know what we need to do or not do. Although these are bad, these are the ones that we're usually willing to deal with because they're so public. These are the sins that are noticeable by everyone.
Sometimes my stitching only goes off a little...this is something that I'll sometimes just let slide and hope that no one sees. Much like my sin life. This is where we all get caught. We have a "small" issue to deal with and we hope that no one notices. We forget Who always notices EVERYTHING. Who we're suppose to be living for.
Every once in a while my stitching is perfect. This is happening more and more with practice. Learning Patience, keeping my eye on the Mark and practice is making my stitching Better and better. Much like our relationship with the Lord. Patience, diligence, keeping our eyes on Him will make our relationship with Him better and better.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23
